In our medical practice we are convinced that the seeds of chronic inflammation (and a lot of other health issues) start with the gut. Two-thirds of the body’s defenses reside in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the second brain of the body. Intestinal bloating, frequent bouts of diarrhea, constipation, gas, heartburn, or acid reflux are early signs of an inflamed digestive tract. It’s not surprising that your immune system first clicks into hyperdrive in your digestive tract — it was designed to eliminate viruses and bacteria in your food before they infect your body.
It is now overburdened with the altered wheat molecule, GMO foods, chemicals, pesticides, artificial sweeteners, etc
You are not what you eat but what you digest and absorb. Digestibility is key to high net gain nutrition as it helps release the highest yield of micronutrients. Digestion is a complicated procedure because since every nutrient has different enzyme for protein, carbohydrates and fats, it is a staged orchestrated act which ideally should run smoothly starting in the mouth. Simple things like chewing food properly and eating in a peaceful environment (not while texting) are important.
Clinically food intolerances have to be considered. Milk and wheat are very allergenic and may cause a lot of inflammation. Certain drugs like antibiotics and birth control pills, stress, excess sugar in diet, alcohol, lead to change in gut flora, causing Candida of the gut, and hence gut dysbiosis, and Leaky gut.
We now have a blood test available to detect Zonulin levels, LPS levels, IGG and IGA to many Gliadin, Glutenin and non-gluten wheat proteins.
The gut contains a delicate balance between friendly flora and yeast. Yeast colonies can multiply rapidly and overtake the friendly colonies. This dysbiosis is treated with probiotics, some herbs and supplements like oregano oil, olive leaf extract, ginger root, berberine, turmeric root etc. Since yeast feeds on sugar, elimination of all sugar in the diet will starve the yeast and cure the problem. Looking at your white coated tongue in the mirror is a simple way of observing the problem.
